We have used a hep lock adapter connected directly to one of the latex tubes of the IV arm vein system, then secured the tube and adapter to the skin to make it look like an IV insertion site. From there we can connect the IV administration set. This bypasses the need to pierce the skin and the internal veins while still allowing for fluid or medication administration. In addition to limiting piercings of the skin, it also tends to be a little more stable for long classes compared to an IV insertion.
