How to copy scenarios to flash drives

    Hi

I am trying to remember how to save a scenario I built at my PC to my flash drive and bring it to my SIM pc and download. Can anyone give me some guidance on this?

    Thanks,

    A.Muller

    Hi A.,

I go to C Drive:, Program Files, then Laerdal Medical, SimMan, ri, userdata, whatever your profile name is, SimMan, scenarios, then the file that you have placed it in such as ACLS, or Breathing Problems and save it to the flash drive.  When you get to another PC, open the C Drive and trace out the same pathway as before.  Then cut and paste or copy and paste to the scenario file.

     Hope this was helpful!

Just remember that if you use any trends, handlers or media in your scenario you will need to copy those as well.

    Scenarios, handlers and trends: C:\Program Files\Laerdal Medical\SimMan\ri\userdata\(Your Profile Name)\SimMan\

    Media: C:\Program Files\Laerdal Medical\SimMan\ri\userdata_common\

Would you double check your comments please?  I don't have the hardware on hand to check this out myself.

There was a misconception with SimMan 2.X that in order to copy a Scenario to a new location, all of its components needed to be individually copied.  In fact, when creating a Scenario, the resultant .sce file contained all of the components (the tcl executable, audio files, trends, handlers, menus and other miscellaneous files) zipped into a single file, that was then renamed .sce.  Thus, to copy a Scenario you needed only to copy the .sce file.

My guess is that Laerdal continues to do this with SimMan 3.x, probably as a means of collecting all the various bits and pieces, and making Scenarios more portable.

    Thanks for checking this out.

Yes you are right, I never realized that the scenarios files did that. However I recently encountered a problem with SimBaby, I don't recall the exact circumstances but I believe that I copied a SimMan file to SimBaby and did the import but the trends and vocal sounds did not work until I copied them over individualy, I assumed that this was the case for all scenarios. The test I just did between two SimMan PC's worked fine though so only the scenario file needs to be copied in that case but I will look into SimBaby some more and try to figure out what happened.

Thank You for clearing that up,

    Chris

Yeah, every once in a while Laerdal gets it right.  Problem is, they don't tell us.  It would be very useful to have some insight from Laerdal as to how they organize things, but it's like pulling teeth to get answers.  They used to sell a technical manual for SimMan that was quite useful, but I'm not sure that's available any longer.

My guess is that there is some information within the .scn file that indicates upon which platform the Scenario was created, and files get misplaced or corrupted when it tries to save to the other platform.

Re: How to copy scenarios to flash drives

I am going to throw my two cents in for what it's worth. When I plug in my flash drive it gives me the option to open and see the folders, so I do. Minimize the folder to your tool bar. Then I go to SimMan and run the software. I go to "file" and click start scenario. When that box opens with all of my scenarios, I click and drag it to my open folder located on my flash drive. This duplicates the whole scenario and saves it to my flash drive. I then can take my flash drive to my other computer and open the folder, like I did before. I start the SimMan software, go to start scenario, and click and drag the whole scenario from my flash drive to the folder in SimMan. I have done this with many files (multiple scenarios at a time too). I have done this with .wav files and everything else within SimMan. If you click, drag, and drop like I have described, it saves time and effort, plus your whole scenario comes with it (handlers, vocals, etc...). I hope this helps. -Jason

Re: How to copy scenarios to flash drives

The process everyone is using is the same in basics, just different shortcuts.  One thing I did when installing the SimMan software on our simulation laptops is to create a folder in the main scenario folder and named it Custom Scenarios.  Then I created a shortcut to this folder and left it on the desktop, changing the name to remove the 'Shortcut to...' portion and leave 'Custom Scenarios'.  Then, instead of having to trace the path each time I add a scenario, I just double click that folder, and I'm there.  I also use the option to open and see folders when I plug in the flash drive, so I have both folders open.  Then I can select multiple files if I want and drag and drop like Jason said.

     Just another shortcut. :)

Re: How to copy scenarios to flash drives

Thanks all. New user here. Just figuring out all of this. I have figured out how to move a scenario I wrote on the laptop to the software now installed on my desktop thanks to the comments. The scenario works just fine on the desktop, however I cannot edit it on their. When I try and open the scenario editor it tells me there was an error and it was unable to open.  Any help?

Re: How to copy scenarios to flash drives

    Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to mention that while you have the opportunity to move scenario files that you create yourself from scratch, pre-programmed scenarios (for example ACLS SimMan Scenarios or Simulation in Nursing Education Scenarios) that you purchase from Laerdal are licensed for use on only one computer. The agreement which appears during the software installation states:

    "GRANT OF LICENSE

This License grants you the following rights:
The Software is for private or institutional use only, you may install only one copy and use it on only one computer. If the Software is to be used on a portable computer, the primary user of the computer on which the Software is installed may install the Software on a single portable computer and only for his or hers exclusive use.
A license for the Software may not be shared between computers or used concurrently on different computers.
This Software can only be used in conjunction with Laerdal simulator manikins and no manikins from any other manufacturer. "

Speak to your Laerdal Sales Rep about purchasing additional licensed copies of software should you have the need to use pre-programmed scenarios on more than one PC at your facility.
