    voices for VitalSim

Can I record new voices to be imbedded into new scenarios for the VitalSim or am I limited to using what is already in Laerdal's package or doing it "on the fly"?

the voices are just wav files. You should be able to record whatever you want and them import them into the software

Are you sure?  That is the case with SimMan, but VitalSim doesn't support sound files unless they are ported through the control box audio input.

That said, you could hook up a microphone to the VitalSim Control Unit (not the handset, but the part that plugs into the manikin). and talk through the VitalSim there.  I believe a wireless mic can also be hooked up to the control unit and you can interact with the student nurses from across the room.

If I'm wrong about the wav file, someone please tell me.

You aren't wrong.  It would be nice to add sound bites, as with SimMan, but no we can't.  I use a microphone to interact with the participants and it works well.

    Re: voices for VitalSim

If the VitalSim manikin is the ALS Simulator, the new Advanced VitalSim interface will allow inserting wav files just like SimMan. It will only work on the ALS Simulator, so if you have a Megacode Kid or Nursing Anne, you are stuck with the limited vocals they provide or you can hook up a microphone and doing the voice yourself.
