    SimMan won't breath on mask

    Hi,

Our SimMan won't breath properly if we put a ventilation mask over his mouth and attach it on mechanical ventilation. We don't have this problem when we tube the manikin, then it is breathing good. I found a small tear in the nasal part of the head and glued it together. But still i'm losing pressure...

Has anyone experience with loss of air/oxygen between skin and head of the manikin? i have the idea that i lose pressure there.\

    cheers, Carlos

The most likely problem is that the mask is not obtaining a good seal.  Also, check the lungs (non-compressed air pair, used for CPR and bag-mask functions); Although they work fine with intubation, it might be that they have worked loose since you tried the intubation: I know that is a long shot, but worth considering.

    Hi Michael,

we used two different masks (anesthetic and ambu), both with the same result. As for the long shot, the manikin was lying open in front of me - who said i can't be a surgeon..:-)

It turned out that the glued connection between oesophagus and the trachea had gotten loose. we had to unscrew the larynx to get there, but we succeeded.

the patient still lives!!!! (feel a bit like frankenstein now: it's alive....)

    cheers for your reply though
