SimMan 3G is now compatible with Laerdal Advanced Video System (AVS)

SimMan 3G is now compatible with Laerdal Advanced Video System(AVS) when you utilize  SimMan 3G sw version 1.0.2 or newer and AVS sw version 1.2.

You can contact your local Laerdal customer service department for help or go to www.laerdal.com/download  for download of the software.

My First try-out with the new AVS system.

Installation of the update is simple, just hit the instal button and it does it all for you.

But….i found out that the server name is deleted and you should rename it again. But this doesn’t seem to be that easy.

This AVS is called ‘server-1’ with the following IP 172.18.3.10.

After the update the server name is the name of the PC, so i changed that. If i start the video Client and look for the server, i find ‘server-1’. If i start the SimMan application, i need to search for server 172.18.3.10. When i fill in the server name i gave the AVS, it won’t be found.

So 1 server, two names. We have a paranoïd server here…..

(a small manual would be nice)

Now to have it working with 3G. instaled on a desktop here, but no connection to 3G software untill know….

    Cheers

    Carlos

Re: SimMan 3G is now compatible with Laerdal Advanced Video System (AVS)

    we have it workling!

you'll have to make your server wireless so it can connect to the 3G. This way it works really nice......but

we can’t use the video client this way (or we have to make all the pc’s in our centre wireless) and the debrief file is located on the instructor laptop, so you’ll have to either connect the laptop onto a beamer or use an usb drive.

For us it isn’t a possibility to get the instructor laptop into our network due to security reasons

Anyone an idea? Laerdal will come by in a week and a half so maybe they will have answers….

    Cheers, carlos

Re: SimMan 3G is now compatible with Laerdal Advanced Video System (AVS)

Issues here as well. What did Laerdal come up with?

Our issue is that the wireless isn't strong enough to reach our debriefing rooms. We have three 3G's and three debriefing rooms, so running cable to the router isn't exactly ideal. We can't use the preexisting wireless infrastructure, because we have three manikins. Also, we have been informed our routers breach security.

I'm currently working with IT on a solution, but grasping at straws.

Anyone else have more than one manikin, thick walls, and long distances?

Why isn't it as simple as SimNewB? Placing both the AVS and the instructor computer on the same network as the client and pointing it to their IP addresses?

Re: SimMan 3G is now compatible with Laerdal Advanced Video System (AVS)

When using AVS with 3G it's recommeded to use an external router. The soft AP router in the manikin will have problems with the large amount of data that needs to be transferred on the network. Remove the soft AP router in the manikin and connect to an external router and have the tablets/laptop connected to this network. AVS should be connected with network cable to this network. It's also prefferable to have the computer running Instructor application on network cable, reason is the risk of loosing the Debrief files due to wlan problems.

Re: SimMan 3G is now compatible with Laerdal Advanced Video System (AVS)

    Hi Bjorge,

If i understand this correct: it ios possible to connect the 3G to an external router: let’s say Router A.

You connect both the instructor tablet and the monitor to it, as well as the AVS system.

But how can one connect the 3G to it. do i have to take the wifi adapter out of the manikin and change the settings the way one does when changing the wifi channel?

This is interesting. Hope to find out soon….

    cheers

Re: SimMan 3G is now compatible with Laerdal Advanced Video System (AVS)

Leave the wifi adapter in Sim Man. Remote desktop into the manikin and change from AP (access point) mode to station mode by right clicking the AP icon in the taskbar.

From there, you will have options to connect to a wireless network within range.

Laerdal Technical Support can help you with this.
