    SimNewB Vocals

Some how my Weak Cry vocal got replaced with Grunting.  Can someone Upload or attach the Weak Cry? I would greatly appreciate it!

I have exactly the same problem with mine. Did you have any joy fixing it?

Not yet. I may try to download the program again from the web site and see if that works.

    Re: SimNewB Vocals

Keep in mind that the following is in part speculation, and part from experience with 100s of software applications:

If you reinstall, let it do the uninstalling of the current version during the install process.  This way your configuration settings will remain the same.  However, if the file size on the "weak cry" vocal is the same as the "grunting" there is a chance that it will not be upgraded.  Some programs are designed to analyze existing file attributes to determine if it should be replaced (to speed up installation).  However, a good installation protocol would be to analyze the file for creation date and modification date as well as file size.  Even then, the protocol might leave a modified file as is because the programmer's rationale may assume that you do not want to replace modified files.  I would recommend that you still try to install over your current installation since I have no idea what was in the minds of the programmers for this application.  If it doesn't correct your vocal file, then you may be forced to uninstall the application yourself before trying to reinstall.

Because of the way that the software interface builds profiles of each user (unless you do as I do and create a "default" user that everyone uses), you may be able to change the vocals for your profile, but not globally, unless you update every occurrence in every profile.  Again, I'm not sure if that is the way the software is designed, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Good luck.  Please let us know what challenges (if any).  Your experience could help others who come across this issue.

    Re: SimNewB Vocals

It is hard to believe, but I have the same problem now.  I recently upgraded to 1.4, and only then did I notice that "Weak Cry" was acutally playing "Grunting".  I think that this is definitely not a user problem.

Has Laerdal made any investigation into this problem?  I know that I can overwrite the Weak Cry with the appropriate sound, but I would like to know how this could have happened in the first place?  Is it a problem with this software distribution?

Turns out that the "weak cry.wav" is not a part of the SimBaby sounds, so I can't just copy it.

I guess I will try to reinstall the software and see if that corrects the problem.  I'll let you know if that makes a difference.

In the meantime, does anyone out there have Weak Cry that they can put on the download page- or is everyone's messed up?

    Re: SimNewB Vocals

    Hi

There is a slight variation between the grunt and weak cry. The weak cry is at a slightly higher pitch and is intended to sound like a "whimper"/weak cry.  Additional sound files can be imported to the Instructor Application on the PC (SimNewB Advanced Version) if different sound files are preferred.

    Re: SimNewB Vocals

After listening once again- you are correct- Weak cry crescendos and Grunting decrescendos.  However, Weak cry still sounds like grunting more than crying. Maybe some of the simulation specialists at the Children's Hospitals around the country could record a variety of baby cries and sell them on SimStore. I, for one, would buy them!

    Re: SimNewB Vocals

Is the weak cry different for SimNewB as apposed to the weak cry for SimBaby?
