    Marking manikin parts

    Hello SUN Colleagues,

Our facility has purchased new manikins and I was wondering you could tell me how your center/facility marks manikin parts to keep them with their rightful manikin. Before I started they tried color coding with markers, using Sharpie pens to write the year, etc. We have many manikins, some old and some new. Body parts quite often look very similar, especially internal ones. Someone at our site suggested a labeler; however, labels do not always stick to the softer skin and I don't know what extended contact with the adhesive of the labels would do if it did stick.

     I need ideas and suggestions....

Thank you in advance for your assistance and sharing.

    Re: Marking manikin parts

We usually find a location where we can pull back the skin and make a mark to indicate which mannequin parts belong to. It keeps the mannequins in good shape and avoids messing up and skins.

Each simulator is given a letter to indicate which one is it... ie: 3G-A, 3G-B, etc.

    Brian,

What about the inner parts which are all skin? There is nothing to pull back. Do you mark these as well?

I don't know that we've run into that problem yet. Can you give me an example of a part you are trying to mark?

    Re: Marking manikin parts

I am referring more to soft or internal parts, such as - genitals, colons, stomachs, injection sites, etc. All of those parts which are usually used for fluids, or are simply made out of only the soft material. We have each manikin's parts in plastic totes, but sometimes parts get interchanged and mixed up. I am trying to somehow get them marked so we can always know which manikin they belong to.

    Re: Marking manikin parts

Oh I see... We don't generally mark them but I assume a sharpie would work...

    Re: Marking manikin parts

    Hi Lori,

We use a sharpie and mark them where it won't be seen by anyone but us.  I also keep the spare parts in bins labeled with the correct manikin they go to.

    Hope this helps.
