    Intubated Initial State

    Hi forum.

Does anybody know how to set up the initial state (first frame) of a scenario with the NewB already intubated?  Some of my scenarios are based on a ventilated baby and the chest is then not moving, however it is causing me difficulties not being able to have the doll intubated on the initial state.

    Hopeful thanks.

    Re: Intubated Initial State

We do not have an actual ventilator, so when we have an intubated and ventilated patient, I simply set the respiratory rate to whatever the vent rate is set to in the scenario. Then I have the vent tubing to a pretend vent or to an old anesthesia cart.

If you wanted to you could have a handler that includes Vent On and Vent Off if you anticipate them taking the patient off the vent to ambu them. Vent on would have RR = set vent rate and Vent off RR = 0. That way you could quickly toggle back and forth.  Hmm- sounds like I need to create a new Handler for myself! Thanks for prompting the idea!

I might try an 'instant' handler for the first frame that makes the baby intubated from the outset - I'll let you know.
